FAQ
How does the guarantee work?
Exactly like it should. If these aren’t the best family photos you’ve ever had, I’m happy to return your money.
How much is this going to cost?
The session fee is $139. Some families spend a few hundred dollars, others opt for larger wall prints or canvases. It’s up to you. I’ll help you select the images and show you what some of the prints or collections could look like in your home. No pressure (the photos tend to sell themselves ;-)
How Long will a session take?
I find the sweet spot is around 45 minutes. It’s enough time to get lots of variety, but not too long where it starts to feel like work or little ones get bored. I never charge extra if we need more time though.
When will the photos be Ready?
A few days to a week. I’ll tell you exactly when during the photoshoot.
How are you going to make sure I look good in my photos?
That’s my job now, isn’t it ;-) It starts when we talk about the shoot, the clothes, the location, what to expect. The day of your photoshoot is not the time for surprises. There’s always a technical element as well, which angles are best for you, what lighting is most flattering and that drives the best way to photograph you. Along the way, there are many, many more details, from expressions to smiles to hand placement, all types of small things I help coach you through.
You say it’ll be easy, you don’t know my husband... or mother in law... or...
I photographed a wedding where the mother in law wore a white dress and the groomsmen behaved like toddlers. Family photos are a breeze. In my former life, I delivered presentations to executives and large crowds at conferences. I’m good at working with all types of people and keeping everyone happy, especially children.
There are 1000 photographers, what’s different about Artisan?
Anyone can take a good photo, but the question you want to ask, is how likely is it that your photos, of your family, will look as good as the best photos on the website. With me, that answer is 100%. I know exactly what I need to do to deliver amazing images. Every time. This is a combination of experience, planning and talent. When I take a photo, I know exactly what it’s supposed to look like on the back of the camera, how it will look a little different on my large monitors and how it will print, either as a photograph or canvas. I know how to make sure it looks just like what we’re seeing in person, the colors, the brightness, the skin tones. This is not an easy trick and it takes years to learn. Despite doing this for years, I still have a series of checklists that I employ, a kind of “pre-flight” checklist for each session to ensure consistency. I’m extremely well prepared. I can tell you which beach is best for which tide, which beach is covered with rocks, when the algae blooms are out, where the sun will be in the sky at different times of the year. All the little things that are required to ensure you have a great session.
Do I really need large prints on my walls?
No, of course not. And if you don’t have them now, you’re not really going to miss not having them. But once you do, you’ll find they’re one of the few things in this world that keep making you smile, day after day, year after year. Our brains are wired towards images and photos are like Google search for your brain. Give it an image and then you can find lots of other related memories. And when you have large prints and artwork of your family on your walls, you get to enjoy those memories a lot more often.
